Manna Bakery

We were an hour early for an eight o’clock appointment yesterday and we drove around the Loyola area looking for a good place to have breakfast. Not Starbucks, definitely. Not McDonald’s either. We considered Seattle’s Best but the parking area was bathed in sunlight and getting into the car afterwards would have been like getting into a hot oven. We left Katipunan Road and entered Esteban Abada Street. That was where we found Manna Bakery. We hadn’t been there before, we hadn’t even heard of it, but the place was cozy, clean and inviting.

Well, it’s the kind of place we’d probably visit again, over and over, whenever we’re in the area. The kesong puti (native white cheese), tomato and pesto sandwich is a dream. Their bestseller, according to the guy behind the counter, and I can totally understand why.

The bread was grease-free, the crust was thin but crisp, the inside of the bread was soft and moist and the filling was too wonderful for words.

The kids had the four-cheese pizza with whole wheat crust.

We asked about the cakes and the guy said there were a lot more varieties available by order. My husband and I were tempted enough by this Chocolate Sin and we decided to order a slice. It was not a bread-y cake but more like the most sinful chocolate cake I bake at home except that it was lighter, the top dusted with confectioner’s sugar and it was served with a dollop of whipped cream.

If you’ve heard of the Market at the Hills, you can also sample Manna Bakery’s food there on Saturdays and Sundays. We’re going on Sunday.

Hi Ms. Connie! Thank you for featuring us. We went on sabbatical August last year but we will begin baking again soon. We are not connected to a new bakery that just opened and was featured on TV recently. Please check out our website for any updates http://www.manna.com.ph. Thanks very much!

Hi Miss Connie, is the shop new in E.Abada? I can’t remember going there when I was still studying in the Katipunan area (that was about 3 years ago). Interesting! Might drop by one of these days to try this out.

That’s it. Don’y say anything more about that sandwich. You are making me hungry. …I guess I just have to wait till after Christmas when my wife and I get to visit our vacation house again.
